IRON GULCH: INTRODUCTION

IRON GULCH

Lost within the furthest reaches of the known galaxy, Iron Gulch resides, hunched upon a precipice glaring out into the endless void. Wealth and prosperity once blessed the citizens of Gulch who’d braved the journey to the outer rim, flocking from distant stars in search of its valuable iron ore known as Darrellium. Like an undulating sea; thousands of mines bore down into the desert wastelands while vast cities rose upwards around them. Each city stretched for hundreds of thousands of miles, their streets lined with artistry and music as even the poorest of citizens could afford to drink wine, sitting amidst a flowing tide of ornate architecture. Powerful Families and Guilds ruled over them, basking in the spoils of mineral wealth, they built great spires to rise above the fire lit clouds like celestial beings ascending into the ether… Now the ruling classes hide behind walls reinforced with iron; their spires nothing more than mocking relics, looming over cities that plummet towards entropy.

One by one the mines dried up. Poverty gave way to famine, famine spread disease. Local militia’s exercised in genocide as law and order collapsed beneath an insatiable wave of violence. Crime polluted the population; ferocious Gangs emerging from within the chaos like a cancer seeping in through the wounds of a fractured society. Within the catacombs of refineries belching fumes into the atmosphere, beneath the neon glow of bar signs illuminating back alley brothels, and amidst the seas of cargo containers built up into dilapidated housing districts; mighty Gang Lords surge from within the shadows shedding blood to gain territory and murdering to survive. Some fight to gain power, others to protect their people. Some kill simply for the ecstasy of killing; a deathly release from the monotony of living poverty stricken lives. Salvation emerges with the discovery of a new mine, but where mineral ore pours from Gulch, so too does the blood of endless Gangs warring for its control.

Will the Citizens of Iron Gulch find order and rise again to past glory, or will they slowly perish; rotting beneath the cinders of a ruined civilization?
